The month of May is, in my opinion, the best month of all. The miserable British weather is finally a lot less miserable, the sun shines almost everyday and we all go back to our caveman instincts and cook our food outside using fire, which is pretty weird but each to their own. But they’re not the main reasons as to why May is so great. May is my birthday month!!! I’m very nearly super old this year, I’m turning 26 which means I can no longer vaguely say “I’m in my early twenties” when people ask my age, in fact I can pretty much say “I’m almost 30” and before we know it I’ll be picking out a zimmer frame!
Anyway, I thought I’d put together a little list of perfect birthday gifts for an obsessive, crazy and completely over-the-top Harry Potter fan such as myself and then maybe I’ll share it to all of my family and friends in the hopes that they take it as a little hint 😉
(My birthday is on the 30th by the way, for those of my family members who may be reading this and who may or may not have forgotten – I know what you’re like but don’t worry, I’ve got your back!)
I’m going to pick 10 items that I think are most awesome and will suit a range of budgets, I could go wild and pick a million items because there are so many Potter items that I love but I’m very conscious of sounding a little too Dudley-ish and no one will want that!
So here we are –
Ten Perfect Gifts for the Birthday Witch or Wizard
1. Harry Potter’s Wand
I thought I’d go for a simple and rather obvious item for my first choice because I just don’t think you can go wrong with this item. The Chosen One’s wand is a staple piece for any Harry Potter collector and a must have item for a fan. This one is straight from the studio tour where all the magic was created so I think that makes it a little extra special and for £29 it really isn’t a bad price!
2. Hogwarts Acceptance Letter
Again this is probably a bit of an obvious choice but it’s such a perfect gift for any Harry Potter fan who longed for the day that a great big cuddly half-giant would knock down their door and hand them a wax sealed envelope with an invitation to Hogwarts inside. The Harry Potter Shop at Platform 9 3/4 sells these wonderful little personalised acceptance letter sets for just £15 and I think they’d make a great gift, even if you are turning 26 and are a just a tad too old for Hogwarts.
3. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – Illustrated Edition
Books are such a great gift to give someone, I feel like the idea of giving someone a book as a gift is so much more than just giving them a book; you’re giving them a story, a whole new world, a place to escape to and new people to meet. You’re giving them a whole new adventure and what better gift is there than adventure? The illustrated editions of Harry Potter have all been so beautiful so far but I think the illustrated edition of Fantastic Beasts is definitely the most stunning. These are £25 available straight from Bloomsbury themselves or take a look in your local supermarkets where they’re often found for around £15 – bargain!
4. Chocolate Frog Key Chain
How cute is this? It’s a little Chocolate Frog key chain which actually smells of chocolate so you can help beat those chocolate cravings by taking a whiff of this (though it might look a bit weird if you go around sniffing your keys all day) this heavenly smelling key chain will be sure to make the recipient super happy on their special day and will of course keep Hermione’s mum and dad happy as you won’t be rotting your teeth with an actual chocolate frog – see! Everyone can be happy! They’re just £8.95 so even your bank balance will be smiling!
5. Happee Birthdae Harry Cake
Okay it’s not an actual cake but let’s continue to keep Mr and Mrs Granger happy by only having pretend sweet treats. This fabulous little cake is actually a ring handmade by the ever so talented In The Dungeons on Etsy. I will forever encourage you to buy from this Etsy page because I have had a few pieces from there and I have been in awe with each item I have ever received, plus they come wrapped in brown paper packaging, tied up with string and these are definitely a few of my favourite things… sorry, I couldn’t resist! Anyway, this ring would make the perfect accessory for the birthday witch or wizard and for just £8.55 it’s an absolute steal.
P.s. here’s a little video of me receiving some items from In The Dungeons recently so you can see just how fabulous the packaging and items are! -> Watch here!
6. Magical Treats Box
I love this gift box full of magical treats available on Amazon. It’s such a cool gift idea and I know I would be super happy to receive this for my birthday, not a hint, just putting it out there 😉 Inside you get a bottle of Butterscotch beer, which is the closest thing to actual Butterbeer I’ve ever tasted (top tip by The Hufflepuff Queen is to add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to your glass before pouring in the butterscotch drink to make the taste extra sweet and froth extra frothy!). You also get a Chocolate Frog which comes with a collectable card inside, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans and my favourite Jelly Slugs! All for £19.99.
7. Platform 9 3/4 Watch
In the wizarding world it is traditional for a young wizard to receive a gold watch when he comes of age, which is at 17. Now I know this isn’t a gold watch and I’m not turning 17 (boo hoo!) but a watch as a gift is always something special and this little Platform 9 3/4 watch is a subtle way to carry some magic around with you. These are just £29 from The Harry Potter Shop at Platform 9 3/4.
8. House Slippers
For birthdays I always feel like you can’t go wrong with gifts of bed wear and bath stuff. So these house themed slippers would be a brilliant gift and what better way to show you care than giving a gift of warm and comfortable feet? These are available in all four Hogwarts houses but of course I’m only showing you a picture of the Ravenclaw ones because I love them. They’re available for just £19.95.
9. Harry Potter Charm Necklace
I just love this little charm necklace from EMP. It features such symbolic items/symbols from our favourite series and is quite subtle too. It has a Time Turner charm, a Golden Snitch, The Deathly Hallows symbol and the Platform 9 3/4 and I don’t know about you but I find each of these symbols are some of things that I immediately think of when I think of the Wizarding World. This is just £6.99 so it’s an absolute bargain!
10. Mystery Funko Pop Pocket Key Chain
These are probably the cutest things ever! As if Funko Pops weren’t cute enough they went and made them smaller and portable! Now you can buy these in boxes where you can see what you’re getting, but where’s the fun in that? These little mystery packs make a great little gift and are a great pocket money buy too! I love that you don’t have a clue what you’re getting as it just adds to the excitement so much more, plus what’s a birthday without a surprise? These are available from EMP for just £6.99.
Thanks for reading, I hope you got some cool gift ideas either for yourself or for your favourite witch or wizard!
